Overview

Thúy Tranviet is an educator with a deep interest in language, culture, and connection who has taught Vietnamese at Cornell since 1995. She offers courses at all levels - from introductory language to advanced newspaper reading and contemporary literature - while weaving history, culture, and lived experience into every class. Her teaching philosophy centers on creating meaningful, practical learning experiences that link language study with cultural understanding and contemporary issues.

Beyond Vietnamese language and culture, Thúy has designed interdisciplinary courses on community engagement and climate change, including a field trip to Vietnam where students examine environmental challenges in global and local contexts. An Engaged Cornell Faculty Fellow, her academic interests span international education, literary studies, and global service-learning. A Cornell alum, she earned her Ph.D. in 2015 and also holds an M.A. from the University of Michigan and a B.A. from the University of California, Santa Barbara. Outside the classroom, she enjoys swimming and traveling and has visited more than sixty countries.
