About us

Research in the group focuses on understanding the various evolutionary processes that have shaped the composition and evolution of genomes. We are interested in understanding the dynamics of genetic variation in populations as well as the underlying causes of differences among individuals by using modern approaches, including molecular biology, bioinformatics and statistical modelling.

One recent focus is on viral evolution and in particular, endogenous retroviruses (ERVs) that constitute a substantial fraction of vertebrate genomes. We are interested in understanding the circumstances under which ERVs successfully colonise genomes, and their subsequent impact on the host genome.

We are always looking for interested PhD students and postdocs. If you would like to apply for a NERC fellowship, Marie Curie fellowship, or have the possibility of a studentship, please email us.
