About us
The Architectural Engineering Research Group is an interdisciplinary group working in the field of sustainability and building physics. The group is involved in both pure and 'close to industry' research with a wide portfolio of UK, European and international activities.
Our research experience and expertise include: solar thermal, thermal and electric storage systems, passive/active architectural cooling systems and environmental and economic assessment of products and services.
The group benefits from a dedicated laboratory offering mechanical/thermal physical testing including solar simulators, climatic chamber, and an advanced renewable technologies recycling centre. The group also offers computer-based simulations including computational fluid dynamics, structural finite element analysis (mechanical/thermal), building thermal/energy efficiency simulations, buildings services simulations and general optimisation studies.

| PERSEUS: Printed Perovskite Solar Cells for Large Area User Applications PERSEUS focuses on advancing renewable energy by developing and scaling perovskite-based solar cells (PSCs), a cutting-edge solar technology known for its low cost, high power-to-weight ratio, and impressive efficiency of 27% at the lab scale. The project tackles key challenges in transitioning PSCs from small-area cells to large-scale modules. By creating blueprints for large-scale production, PERSEUS will help make solar energy more accessible and sustainable, ensuring that Europe remains at the forefront of clean energy innovation. | Dr Shahaboddin Resalati | Horizon Europe | From: January 2025 Until: December 2027 |
| SolMates: Scalable High-Power and Low-Cost Made-to-Measure Tandem Solar Modules (solar panels) Enabl SolMates aims to provide a novel industrial, scalable technology for producing flexible, durable, and made-to-measure solar panels. This could lead to more versatile and powerful solar energy solutions in the future. | Dr Shahaboddin Resalati | Horizon Europe | From: January 2023 Until: December 2026 |
