Whether you want to showcase your skills as a player or singer, discover a new talent or simply meet like-minded people from across the University and Oxford, Brookes Music has something for everyone.
Music is an integral part of the life of the University, from our choirs and orchestra to the many student-led music societies. Whatever your skills and musical interests, at Oxford Brookes you can get involved in one of the many ensembles, find a quiet space to practise, and socialise with other musicians and music lovers.
Ensembles
The University maintains several official ensembles, which are led by staff members from the music team, and also hosts a great number of student-led music societies. You are welcome to join our:

Past performances included Beethoven’s Egmont Overture, Leroy Anderson’s A Christmas Festival, and a selection of movie favourites.

Musical Theatre Society
There are two student societies dedicated to performing musical theatre:
The Oxford Brookes Musical Theatre Society stages a big production in March (in 2026: Into the Woods). In addition to the weekly rehearsals, there are social meetings to celebrate all things musical.

The Fortune Singers are a non-auditioned musical theatre choir, which puts on a performance every semester filled with solos, small groups and chorus numbers from a variety of Broadway and West End Musicals. It also organises socials and theatre trips throughout the year.

Facilities
We have several practice rooms, each equipped with a piano, located in the basement of the Richard Hamilton Building. These rooms are free to use and do not require booking. Our bookable specialised practice spaces - the Live Drum Room and Silent Band Room - are available to students by subscription. All practice rooms are open on weekdays from 7:00am to 9:00pm during semester.
We also provide a secure instrument storeroom for students to keep orchestral instruments, guitars, and amplifiers on campus. In addition, an instrument hire service is available (subject to availability) for students without their own instruments in Oxford who wish to take part in the orchestra.
For our performances, we use different spaces across campus (the Forum, Union Hall) and in the community (e.g. the Bullingdon on Cowley Road and All Saints Church in Headington).
