Research influencing policy

Oxford Brookes aims to enhance the influence and impact of research from across the university on policy and practice at local, national, and international levels. By bringing together academics, policymakers, and practitioners, the university fosters collaboration to address key societal questions.

Local policy lab

The Local Policy Lab is a brand new alliance between the University of Oxford, Oxford Brookes University, and Oxfordshire County Council, that aims to promote relationships and bridge the gap between research and local policy.

As the home to two large universities – the University of Oxford and Oxford Brookes University – Oxford (and Oxfordshire) can access a wealth of cutting-edge, impact-driven research that could inform solutions to public policy challenges facing the city and county.

Sustainable development goals

Responding to global challenges, including through research responses to sustainability and the SDGs is also a key focus of research agendas at the University.

Public and community engagement

Researchers, academics, professional support colleagues and students provide a diverse programme of events, activities and festivals. This programme also includes online resources including podcasts, teaching materials and short films.

Through these activities we aim to communicate the work of the University to a wide range of publics in a mutually beneficial two-way process. By inspiring, informing, listening and discussing together we hope to shape the futures of our local and regional communities as well as our University.

Research Excellence Framework 2021

The purpose of the REF is for the UK higher education funding bodies to secure the continuation of a world-class, dynamic and responsive research base within UK higher education.

The REF is a process of expert review, carried out by expert panels for each of the 34 subject-based units of assessment (UOAs), under the guidance of four main panels. Expert panels are made up of senior academics, international members, and research users.
