Clinic practice is a unique project developed by St. Petersburg State University. Designed to integrate rigorous academic study with real-world application, it equips students with professional skills by engaging them directly in client-focused work within university-run clinics, all under the guidance of expert faculty.

The University’s first clinic was established within the Faculty of Law in 1998, founded on the dual principle of providing free legal aid to the public while enhancing student education through practical skills. \ \ The model’s credibility was solidified when the law clinic secured partial legal entity status, a pivotal move that integrated live casework into the curriculum and enriched academic instruction. The success of this legal clinic provided a blueprint for the entire University, leading to its expansion into disciplines such as Psychology and Social Work. From a single initiative, the programme has grown to encompass 22 clinics across SPbU.

The clinic format pursues two equally significant goals:

Practical training for students, to develop their professional competencies in line with modern labour market demands and to increase competitiveness of future graduates.
Socially oriented assistance and services to citizens and organisations.
