# Independent Aspirantura Studies

Independent aspirantura studies is an affiliation of a person to St. Petersburg State University for up to three years to prepare a doctoral dissertation without mastering the training programmes for research and teaching staff in aspirantura (adjunctura, i.e. a military aspirantura) programmes. This form of work provides an opportunity to prepare a doctoral dissertation under the guidance of one of the leading scientists of St. Petersburg State University and access to the cutting-edge scientific infrastructure of St. Petersburg State University ([the SPbU Research Park](https://english.spbu.ru/science-research-spbu/research-park), [M. Gorky Scientific Library of SPbU](https://english.spbu.ru/science-research-spbu/m-gorky-scientific-library-spbu), [the St. Petersburg State University Research Repository](https://dspace.spbu.ru/?locale=en) and a lot more).

### How to apply for independent aspirantura studies?

Specialists from SPbU Scientific Contract support department will be pleased to help you with any questions you may have regarding your application for independent aspirantura studies. They will help you to fill the necessary documentation and, in general, will provide consulting support throughout the entire period of the application for independent aspirantura studies from submitting an application to gaining access to SPbU resources.

#### Step 2. Filling in an application

The application for independent aspirantura studies is filled in the [Pure System](https://pure.spbu.ru) according to the [instructions](https://spbu.ru/openuniversity/documents/ob-utverzhdenii-novoy-redakcii-prilozheniya-k-prikazu-ot-15052015-no-0). Login to the Pure System is available by SPbU Personal Account. It is activated on the next business day after filling in the [registration form](https://support.it.spbu.ru/self/?lang=en). Deadlines for applications: annually February 15 — April 15 and October 15 — November 1.

Scanned copies of the following documents should be attached to the application:

- The application addressed to the Rector of St. Petersburg State University (according to the [established form](https://nauka.spbu.ru/files/soiskatelstvo/zayav.docx))
- A copy of an identity document
- A copy of a specialist or master degree
- The list of published research papers and/or patents (certificates): for a utility model, industrial design, selection achievements, computer software, a database, integrated circuit topologies duly registered (if any) signed by an applicant
- Justification for choosing the topic of the doctoral dissertation
- The doctoral dissertation preparation plan (according to the [established form](https://nauka.spbu.ru/files/soiskatelstvo/plan.docx))

**Step 3. Conclusion of the Agreement**

You will be informed about the decision taken regarding your application in a way that is convenient for you (as indicated in the Application) within 30 working days from the date of the deadline for accepting documents. In case of application approval, the relevant Agreement is concluded with you. An estimated cost, the amount of which is calculated taking into account a number of factors, including the duration of the affiliation, the hours worked by the research supervisor, the amount of use of the SPbU Research Park resources, etc. is attached to it.
