Programme description

- The bachelor’s programme ‘Classical Philology (Ancient Greek and Latin; Ancient Greek and Roman Literature) is designed to study a set of academic disciplines based on reading and interpreting the whole variety of texts in Ancient Greek and Latin. They are aimed at studying: these languages and literature; the monuments themselves that preserve these texts; as well as those aspects of culture and history of the Ancient world that require philological analysis of the sources
- Students acquire knowledge of: linguistics (historical grammar, lexicology, dialectology); the history of literature (metrics, stylistics, textual criticism); palaeography; epigraphy and papyrology; and other disciplines that focus on classical studies (political history, the history of law, religion, science, philosophy, and art) to the extent that they draw on textual analysis
