Programme description
This master’s programme ‘Bioinformatics’ is a multi-discipline programme in bioinformatics that does not focus on a single area of life sciences.
The students are offered a wide range of project-oriented and research tasks that are tailored to the real needs of employers and/or research teams and include a wide range of problems in biomedicine, medical technology, ecology, evolution, agrobiology and many others.
The programme is aimed at easing the current shortage of specialists having both the basic knowledge in the field of life sciences and being able to apply the fundamentals of mathematics, statistics, programming and big data analysis methods. The programme is unique in that it provides a balanced teaching of both the mathematical, biological and computer-related subjects.
Graduates of the programme will be able to correctly interpret the data of genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics and their aggregates in a wide range of biological, medico-biological and other applications.
Upon completion of the programme, graduates are awarded the additional qualification ‘Software Developer’.

Our advantages
- The programme is designed to train experts in bioinformatics who: have professional skills in processing and interpreting biological and biomedical data; and are capable of setting complex tasks and solving them using bioinformatic approaches and methods
- The experts who are capable of analysing big data and transferring the results obtained to the practical fields of medicine, forensics, agriculture, ecology, environmental protection, oil and gas development and many others are currently much-in-demand. The need for such specialists will only increase in future. Graduates of the programme ‘Bioinformatics’ can work at: Russian universities; research institutes; biotechnological companies; medical institutions; forensic laboratories; environmental services; production associations; and leading laboratories in the world. Especially this is because the developing domestic IT industry is a good support to the competitiveness of the Russian bioinformatics market
- While obtaining the additional qualification of ‘Software Developer’, students acquire the competencies required for professional programming
