> Our mission is to foster greater humanity in interpersonal relations by developing people's ability to peacefully and constructively resolve and prevent conflict situations in various fields of human activity.

The main aim of the Clinic is to train highly qualified experts in the field of conflictology who will be able to foster humane methods of managing disagreements in an ethical and professional manner at different levels of human interaction.

The Conflictology Clinic was originally established in December 2010 as the ‘Service for Conflictological Counselling and Mediation in Conflict Resolution (Mediation)’ with the support of the Academic Council at the Institute of Philosophy at St. Petersburg State University. It served as a platform for practical training and internships of undergraduates and research practice of master’s students in Conflictology. In 2018, its status was revised and it was renamed the ‘Conflictology Clinic of St. Petersburg State University’.

The Clinic is focused on providing pro bono support to individuals seeking to resolve their problems and conflicts, using counselling and mediation as tools for addressing difficult situations.

> Mediation is a method of helping disputing parties. It is based on negotiations between them involving a neutral mediator as a participant.

In most cases, such negotiations end with the conclusion of a mutually beneficial agreement, which is voluntarily executed by the parties in 91% of cases. This method has been used in Russia since 1992. It was enshrined in law in 2010 (Federal Law № 193).

The staff of the Clinic receives calls, process client requests, and conduct consultations and mediation sessions. Since 2020, the Clinic has offered the option of online services at the request of clients.

During their internship period, all students of the Department of Conflictology work in the Clinic. Throughout the year, all interested students from any year who wish to do so and even alumni may continue their work at the Clinic. It also serves as a placement base for specialists from diverse fields —graduates of continuing education courses in mediation.
