Programme description

The master’s programme ‘Artificial Intelligence and International Security’ is designed to train experts in international relations. Students will acquire up-to-date knowledge of key issues in international relations alongside a foundational understanding of the principles underlying artificial intelligence technology. They will develop the skills required to organise the collection and processing of large volumes of data in the foreign policy domain, providing a basis for informed and balanced decision-making in international affairs.

The research within this programme is aimed at: exploring the growth of artificial intelligence capabilities in ensuring national and international security to minimise threats to destabilise societies through state-of-the-art psychological warfare techniques.

Teaching staff

- Konstantin Pantserev, Doctor of Political Science, Associate Professor, Professor in the Department of Theory and History of International Relations, Member of the International Studies Association, Member of the Scientific Council for the Problems of Africa of the Russian Academy of Sciences. He is involved in projects investigating the misuse of artificial intelligence technology. He is the author of more than 100 scholarly papers
- Roman Vykhodets, Candidate of Science (Philosophy), Associate Professor, Associate Professor in the Department of Theory and History of International Relations; Corresponding Member of the Academy of Geopolitical Problems; Member of the Russian Philosophical Society; Assistant to a Deputy of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation. He is involved in research projects investigating political imageology and strategic communications. He is the author of approximately 50 academic publications
- Evgeny Pashentsev, Doctor of History, Professor, Professor in the Department of Theory and History of International Relations; Chief Research Associate at the Centre of New Challenges and Threats at the Institute of Contemporary International Studies of the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation; Director of the International Centre for Social and Political Studies and Consulting; Member of the International Advisory Board of *Comunicar*, Spain (indexed in the Web of Science (Q1) and Scopus (Q1)); Member of the Editorial Board of the *Journal of Political Marketing (*USA, Scopus, Q1); Coordinator of the International Research Group on Threats for International Psychological Security by Malicious Use of Artificial Intelligence (Research MUAI); author of 20 monographs and 40 books and over 200 academic articles published by leading Russian and international academic and expert publishers and journals

- The academic programme is interdisciplinary. In addition to organisational, managerial and communicative competencies in international affairs, it is also aimed at developing competencies in data science and artificial intelligence
- Prospective graduates of the programme are capable of setting development specifications for experts in artificial intelligence and machine learning. They can also make arrangements for collecting and processing big data in the foreign policy sphere, which can be used for making informed foreign policy decisions
- The programme is practice-oriented. During training, students master (including through practical training and workshops) the practical application of artificial intelligence technologies, the fundamentals of some programming languages (Python), and the military use of digital technologies
- The fact that some courses are taught in English increases the competitiveness of graduates internationally
