The Museum is dedicated to the geology of rocks. The first collection assembled by Professor Aleksander Inostrantsev, consisted of 550 samples.

Opening hours
Admission of visitors is temporarily suspended from 9 October 2020. The reopening date will be announced later.
The last Thursday of each month is a cleaning day.

Tuesday, Thursday: 12 noon, 2pm, 4pm Wednesday, Friday, Saturday: 12 noon, 2pm, 4pm, 6pm
Admission tickets
Adults – 350 roubles, reduced tickets – 175 roubles, group ticket – 4,000 roubles, reduced group ticket – 2,000 roubles.

You can pay with cash via Sberbank ATM at 7/9 Universitetskaya Embankment, Mendeleevskaya Line entrance (the ATM might charge an additional fee)

If you cannot pay either via the payment terminal or via payment system, you can pay with a credit card and cash in the ticket office of St Petersburg University at the Faculty of Philology at 3 Philologichesky lane (open 10am – 1pm and 2pm – 4.30pm)

Petrological collections of the University began to take shape in the 1870s on the initiative and with an active participation of the first professor of the University Aleksander Inostrantsev.
The Petrological museum of St. Petersburg University stores collections of rock sections of Nikolay Przhevalsky’s friends, colleagues and students: Grigory Potanin, Mikhail Pevtsov, Innokentii Lopatin and others. Many academicians contributed to the collection of the Museum:

- Professors Vladimir Timofeev, Galina Saranchina, Nikolai Shinkarev, Nikolai Kotov, Sergei Grigorev
