Programme description
The academic programme ‘Conflict Management’ provides training for experts in: political and ethnic conflict analysis and management; and alternative technologies of conflict resolution – negotiation and mediation – in order to maintain peaceful modes of interaction in policy, national and social relations, business relations, and organisational, group, family and interpersonal relations. Graduates of the programme are capable of solving theoretical and practical issues in the fields of professional activity in compliance with professional standards.

- Aleksandr Strebkov, Doctor of Political Science, Head of the Department of Conflictology, Head of the academic programme; developer of all Federal State Educational Standards for bachelor’s and master’s programmes in conflict studies. He is the founder and Editor-in-Chief of Russia’s first specialised scholarly and practical journal Konfliktologia (Conflict Studies); author of over 150 publications on issues in conflict and security. He has been awarded the badge ‘Honoured Worker of Higher Professional Education of the Russian Federation’
- Daur Abgadzhava, Candidate of Sociology, Associate Professor, co-founder of the Department of Conflictology and leading specialist in the theoretical and methodological analysis and management of political conflicts. He is also the Executive Editor of the specialised scholarly and practical journal Konfliktologia(Conflict Studies) and the author of over 50 publications on political conflicts and the manageability of the social and political order
- Andrei Aleinikov, Professor, Doctor of Science (Philosophy), certified mediator; expert in the analysis of contradictions and conflicts in the present-day political process in Russia. He is recognised for his unique analytical and expert skills in assessing the conflict potential of business structures and in conflict resolution techniques. He is also a member of the editorial board of the journal Vlast’; and the author of over 200 publications on current issues in theoretical and applied conflictology.
- Georgii Artemov, Doctor of Science (Philosophy), Professor in the Department of Ethics at St Petersburg University; expert in the methodology and methods of applied research into the factors, forms, mechanisms and outcomes of interpersonal and intergroup interaction in various spheres of modern society; Honoured Worker of Higher Professional Education of the Russian Federation; Honorary Professor of St Petersburg University; author of over 200 scientific publications, including works on the study of social conflicts
- Elena Ivanova, Candidate of Psychology, Associate Professor, a leading specialist in mediation technologies and negotiation with the involvement of a mediator; author of more than a dozen books and textbooks on mediation, covering areas from conflict consulting to supervision. She has been a practising mediator and has been teaching mediation and negotiation since 1992. She received an international mediator certificate in 1995 and has continued to upgrade qualifications through international training courses. She has completed internships abroad in Alternative Dispute Resolution and Mediation in the USA and Norway, as well as mediation training in Florence and Brussels. She has been a trainer in management, business communication, facilitation, stress management and conflict resolution since 1987, and in mediation since 1992. She has conducted more than 1,500 training sessions for clients including Russian Railways (for 20 years), Gazprom (for 10 years), Sberbank of Russia (for 4 years), Roscosmos, Sibur, and others
- Tatyana Kryukova, Candidate of Engineering, Associate Professor; expert in the analysis of relationships of various kinds in complex systems under transitional and uncertain conditions; expert in mathematical modelling, and methods and models of decision-making, as well as analytical tools for studying conflicts of different natures; author of more than 70 scholarly papers and projects
- Igor Osipov, Doctor of Science (Philosophy), Professor, Head of the Department of History of Philosophy; participant in projects on the history of Russian and Soviet philosophy and the philosophy of education; Editor-in-Chief of the journal Vestnik of Saint Petersburg University. Philosophy and Conflict Studies. He is the author of more than 300 scholarly papers on the history of Russian philosophy and the history of conflict studies (20 papers)
- Anna Pinkevich, Candidate of Political Science, Associate Professor, a leading specialist in organising and conducting applied research in conflict resolution studies; participated in numerous projects on modern society, social conflicts and social tensions; author of over 50 publications on social tension, social conflicts, conflict-generating factors in societal development, methods of conflict resolution research, and the analysis and processing of conflict resolution data
- Artem Sunami, Candidate of Political Science, Associate Professor, expert in drug conflictology, anti-drug policy, pedagogical conflictology and school mediation; author of over 100 scholarly papers on drug prevention, countering extremism, conflictological responsibility, pedagogical conflictology and school mediation; Member of the Editorial Board of the specialised scholarly and practical journal Konfliktologia (Conflict Studies)
- Nadezhda Petrova, Candidate of Culturology, Assistant Professor; mediator; trainer in mediation, negotiation and communication in conflict; Research Supervisor of non-degree programmes in mediation and negotiation at St Petersburg University; expert in mediation and issues in violence, extremism, and terrorism; Lead Trainer of St Petersburg University student teams in mediation and negotiation; author of 30 scholarly papers on mediation, intercultural interaction, social and political violence, terrorism, and extremism; a co-author and a developer of curricula for the bachelor’s and master’s programmes in Conflictology at St Petersburg University
- Olga Andreeva, expert in practical conflict resolution through negotiation and mediation; participated in the project Implementation of conciliation procedures (mediation) in the judicial system of St Petersburg; mediator in the courts of general jurisdiction of St Petersburg. She has conducted more than 500 mediations and 900 training sessions in effective communication, negotiation, conflict resolution, and mediation. She is a member of the International Certification Committee of Mediators in the Russian Federation; an expert at the Mediation Centre of St Petersburg University and the St Petersburg State Budgetary Institution ‘City Centre for Social Programmes and Prevention of Antisocial Phenomena Among Youth “Kontact”’. She is the author of 25 scholarly papers. She has been awarded the all-Russian badge ‘Master of Mediation’
