Student Council of St. Petersburg State University
The Student Council is an association of proactive students elected by fellow students to deal with a variety of issues in the best interests of each student. The Council provides a link between the students and the University administration. Its primary task is to represent and promote the interests of the students at all levels.
Student life at St. Petersburg State University is diverse and full of events. In addition to classes, open academic and research seminars, conferences and lectures by renowned scholars, the University hosts over 300 student events each year. These include:
- International Festival
- Spring and Winter Balls
- Jazz and symphonic evenings and concerts
- Instrumental, choral and rock concerts
- student art festivals
- intellectual and board game championships
- KVN League Championship of St. Petersburg State University
- photo exhibitions
- guided tours of St Petersburg and the Leningrad Region
St. Petersburg State University supports student volunteer organisations that organise community clean-ups and environmental events, visit orphanages, and assist in various events at the University. There is also a staff of student teams, which includes four teaching teams, two construction teams and an archaeological team.

people take part in University competitions in 22 sports each year.
University students are multiple winners and awardees in international, national and student competitions in basketball, football, rugby, rowing, mountaineering, yachting, boxing, athletics, biathlon and other sports.
