Programme Mission
The programme is aimed at training students with an in-depth knowledge of the culture of Russia.
First of all, it targets international students who have a fundamental understanding of the history, philosophy, culture and art of Russia. The programme is unique in that it combines general cultural course units with courses aimed at in-depth study of the fundamentals of Russian culture.
Special focus will be on the formation and development of Russian cultural identity, the acquisition of research methods in the study of Russian culture and the specific character of the Russian mentality. It is also important that students will master these skills using data from various fields related to the study of Russian culture. The programme trains skilled specialists who are well aware of the history of Russian culture and contemporary cultural processes that are under way in Russia
Key Skills
Graduates of the programme will be able to carry out professional activities in the following areas:
- culturology; cultural sciences; historical and cultural and social and cultural knowledge; strategies for cultural policy and management; intercultural collaboration; study and preservation of cultural and natural heritage; and socio-cultural and mass communications;
- educational institutions of secondary vocational education (schools, lyceums, colleges, gymnasiums) and higher education;
- academic and research institutions that are engaged in socio-cultural and cross-cultural issues;
- think tanks and research centres;
- media teams, museums and libraries;
- government agencies, municipal administrations, and public organisations.
Entering Research and Professional Community
Students of the academic programme ‘Russian Culture (in English)’ have an opportunity to take an active part in a wide range of scientific events held with the participation of the Institute of Philosophy at St Petersburg University.

Key Features of the Programme
The programme is unique in that it provides: an in-depth study of the fundamentals of Russian culture and the formation and development of Russian cultural identity; and the acquisition of research methods in the study of Russian culture and the specific character of the Russian mentality.
The programme trains skilled specialists who are well aware of the history of Russian culture and contemporary cultural processes that are under way in Russia. Graduates of the programme will: acquire fundamental knowledge in this area and know how to use the fundamental methodological techniques, culture of argumentation and how to conduct research.
The programme trains specialists whose knowledge and skills can be applied decently in various fields of humanitarian work: in public and private sector organisations and in all those areas which require specialists who are capable of achieving creatively goals using the cutting-edge educational and communication technologies.
