Our advantages
- The bachelor’s programme of St Petersburg University to train high calibre international journalists is one of the first in Russia. Admission to the bachelor’s programme with a major in International Journalism began in 2000. Since 2015, applicants have been enrolled in a separate bachelor’s programme ‘International Journalism’
- It should be noted that the profession of international journalism continues to attract strong interest among young people. Enrolment figures from recent years, along with the results of graduate and employer surveys conducted over the past three years, confirm a sustained level of interest in the programme among prospective applicants. The introduction of the additional qualification ‘Graphic Designer’ is expected to further enhance the programme’s appeal
- The programme’s vision is to develop students into multi-skilled international journalists, i.e. professionals who are capable of creating and producing content in Russian and English for print, audiovisual and new media on a variety of topics ranging from politics and economics to sports and culture
- The programme is implemented by the specialised Department of International Journalism in cooperation with other departments at St Petersburg University. Graduates are much-in-demand as international journalists in: top Russian and foreign media; communication and information agencies; and the relevant departments of government agencies and international organisations
- The programme management system allows for the effective involvement of employers in the analysis and implementation of the programme. The programme has a Council of academic programmes. All its members are heads of departments and divisions of Russian media holdings and are directly involved in the development and teaching of academic disciplines, their expertise, and the development of practice assignments. Representatives of employers conduct individual sessions and master classes on specific topics within the programme’s curriculum
- Uniquely designed courses that combine national and international educational and practical experience are taught within the programme. Advanced educational technologies are used. These include project-based learning methods and practice-oriented methods for working in information environments
- More than 10% of the teaching staff in the programme officially hold the status of lecturers-practitioners, with 72% of the teachers also having had and/or having practical experience in media and related fields.
