Programme description

The programme is aimed at fundamental comprehensive and high-quality training of academic staff in the field of archaeology, based on fundamental study of current issues and data accumulated to date in various fields of archaeological science.

Special attention is paid to the issues related to: the modern understanding of the content of the main archaeological periods (the Palaeolithic, the Mesolithic, the Neolithic, the Chalcolithic, the Bronze Age, and the Iron Age); and consideration of modern approaches in the fields of historiography, source studies and expert activity. The most important task of a doctoral student is to independently develop a current scientific problem in the field of archaeology under the guidance of experts from the Department of Archaeology of St Petersburg University.
