Programme description

The master’s programme "Linguistics of the English-language Sociopolitical Discourse" provides an opportunity to study professionally the linguistic and linguocultural aspects of sociopolitical discourse. The programme is aimed at developing competences in: the practical use of English; translation and interpreting; and discursive and linguocultural analysis of socio-political texts. The programme includes the study of various aspects of practical English, translation practice, and research practice.

- possess skills in research and development work in such areas as political linguistics, media interaction problems, discourse analysis, cross-affection between sociocultural knowledge and discourse practices;
- possess various methods of linguistic analysis and skills in scientific research results analysis
- obtain in-depth knowledge in the selected area of Anglistics
- have a strong command of English, and possess in-depth knowledge of: geopolitical structure, history, and culture of the UK and the USA; as well as linguistic and culturally specific features of the public and political areas of communication
- possess the methodological basics of foreign language teaching. They will be able to critically analyse the communicative strategies of influence used by politicians, the media, and various platforms users to communicate on the Internet
- are skilful in interpreting and translation, and in social and cultural and cross-cultural communication
