During the working week, primary medical care for SPbU students is provided in SPbU Health Centres.

The doctor at the Health Centre consults the patient, prescribes treatment or hospitalisation if necessary, refers the patient to the health facility covered by the health insurance and helps to plan the diagnosis and treatment strategy. University Clinic

### Voluntary Health Insurance

Voluntary medical insurance (VHI) is a type of personal insurance that allows the insured to seek medical care at a medical facility within the territory of Russia and receive qualified medical assistance.

A VHI policy is a mandatory document for foreign citizens. The absence of a VHI policy is grounds for refusal of entry into the territory of Russia. Every foreign student entering the territory of Russia must purchase a DMS policy for the entire duration of their stay. Insurance and translated vaccination certificates are also required for enrolment in SPbU and registration with the Migration Service.

Foreign citizens are only provided with free emergency medical care in cases that pose a threat to the patient’s life until their condition stabilizes. Further treatment is only possible with a voluntary medical insurance policy or payment.

When purchasing a VHI policy, you should pay attention to the insurance programme, which should include the following points:

- Medical examination for issue of form 086/y certificate (including fluorography)
- Medical examination to issue a health book for medical personnel
- Blood tests for HIV, Hepatitis B, RW
- Outpatient services, including specialised medical care for acute and chronic diseases
- Urgent and emergency in-patient specialist medical care, emergency hospitalisation
- Medical evacuation/repatriation
