Programme description
The master's programme ‘BRICS Studies’ has been implemented at the University since 2016. The BRICS countries play a prominent role in today's world and are Russia's most important partners in the international arena. The programme trains experts to work in various areas related to our country's cooperation with the BRICS countries. The programme focuses both on the study of the BRICS countries as a whole and on the integrated study of individual countries and regions: China, Brazil, Russia, India, and South Africa. The programme provides a foundation for a professional career or further education in the fields related to the BRICS countries. The programme trains staff with fundamental knowledge of global political, economic and social processes and current issues in the development of international relations, international and regional interstate structures and network formats of interstate cooperation. Students master analytical skills in the international political and international economic fields, taking into account the needs of both government authorities of the Russian Federation and representatives of international governmental and non-governmental structures, transnational business, and non-governmental organisations.

Our advantages
The programme trains high calibre international relations experts to work in various areas related to our country's cooperation with the BRICS countries and comprehensive studies of these countries. The programme focuses both on the study of the BRICS countries as a whole and on the integrated study of individual countries and regions: China, Brazil, Russia, India, and South Africa. This is the only master's programme in universities in the Russian Federation that trains high calibre international relations experts in the issues of the BRICS countries as a whole. The programme ‘BRICS Studies’ engages renowned Russian experts in foreign and domestic policy studies on China, Brazil, India, South Africa, Russia and international relations more broadly. Students have an opportunity to: study for a semester at one of the partner universities of St Petersburg University; participate in research and expert activities with lecturers; and take part in various international cooperation programmes. The fact that some subjects are taught in English increases the competitiveness of graduates internationally.
