Programme description
This undergraduate programme ‘Applied Mathematics, Control Processes and Artificial Intelligence’ (with additional qualification ‘Programmer’) prepares students for professional careers in fields combining mathematical and computer science expertise. Through rigorous theoretical training and applied skills development, graduates gain the capacity to analyse, model and predict physical and societal phenomena while creating specialised instrumental tools and software solutions to solve complex problems across multiple domains.

- L. Petrosyan—Doctor of Physics and Mathematics, SPbU Professor, Head of the Department of Mathematical Game Theory and Statistical Decisions, Dean of the Faculty of Applied Mathematics and Control Processes. Professor Petrosyan is an Editor-in-Chief of International Game Theory Review (IGTR), Game Theory and Applications, and ‘Vestnik of Saint Petersburg University. Applied Mathematics. Computer Science. Control Processes’. Author of over 200 research publications. Laureate of the Isaacs Award and the Russian Professorial Assembly Award
- A. Bogdanov— Doctor of Physics and Mathematics, Professor at the Space Technologies and Applied Astrodynamics Department. He is a leading expert in designing, developing and implementing high-performance computing systems for complex scientific, engineering, research and analytical tasks. Under his guidance, the first Internet-based distributed computing experiment involving GMD (Germany) and SARA (Netherlands) was held. Professor Bogdanov also supervised the development of the architectural framework for IT&CSC distributed supercomputing centre in Canada. He authored over 200 research publications
- N. Yegorov—Doctor of Physics and Mathematics, Honorary Professor of SPbU, Head of the Department of Electromechanical and Computer Systems Modelling. With over 400 scientific publications, patents and inventor’s certificates, he is a member of the International Steering Committee (European Section) for the International Vacuum Electron Sources Conference (IVESC)
- D. Ovsyannikov— Doctor of Physics and Mathematics, Honorary Professor of SPbU, Head of the Department of Control Systems Theory for Electrophysical Facilities. He published over 250 research paper and 12 monographs. Professor Ovsyannikov is one of the leading scientists in the field of mathematical modelling and optimisation of controlled dynamic processes. He has developed mathematical models for optimising high-intensity beams of charged particles dynamics in accelerators. He developed innovative programme control methods and algorithms for plasma shape, current and positional regulation in the ITER tokamak. He has also supervised the development of unique software systems with no equivalents in the world. Professor Ovsyannikov is a member of the Russian national committee of the International Federation of Automatic Control (IFAC)
- A. Zhabko— Doctor of Physics and Mathematics, Honorary Professor of SPbU, Head of the Control Theory. Director of the ‘Applied Mathematics, Control Processes and Artificial Intelligence’ programme. He is one of most renowned scholars in the field of control theory, theory differential-difference equations, and their applications recognised both in Russia and abroad. He has authored more than 200 research works published in Russia and abroad, including 10 monographs, textbooks and workbooks
