On May 18 and 19, 2026, Naples will host the 14th Galenus International Workshop, entitled "RNA Therapeutics: Taking Stock and Glimpse into the Future," a major scientific event dedicated to the development of RNA-based therapies. The event will be held at the Federico Congress Center on Via Partenope and will bring together researchers and scholars from international universities and research centers to discuss the latest advances in this innovative field of biomedicine.
The workshop is organized by the Federico II University with the support of Galenus-Privatstiftung, a Vienna-based foundation that has been involved in promoting scientific research in the life sciences for many years. It is also being held under the patronage of the Italian Society of Pharmaceutical Technology and Legislation (S.I.T.E.L.F.), the Controlled Release Society - Italy Local Chapter (itCRS) and the Italian Chemical Society (SCI), and with the support of the National Center for the Development of Gene Therapy and RNA Technology Drugs Foundation.
The conference will provide a forum for experts in the field to discuss the latest scientific findings related to RNA therapies, a field that has experienced tremendous growth in recent years due to its potential applications in precision medicine and the treatment of numerous diseases. Several topics central to the development of these technologies will be addressed during the two-day event, including novel molecular mechanisms of RNA and possible therapeutic targets, challenges related to RNA-based drug delivery systems, therapeutic applications beyond the liver, manufacturing and scale-up issues of RNA nanomedicines, and the development of advanced models for the validation of these therapies.
The workshop will feature a number of internationally prominent scholars. Already confirmed guests include Professor Rosario Rizzuto from the University of Padua, Professor Raymond Schiffelers from Universitair Medisch Centrum Utrecht in the Netherlands, Professor Olivia Merkel from Ludwig Maximilian University in Germany, and Professor Rory Johnson from University College Dublin in Ireland. Also speaking will be Professor Sarah Hedtrich of the University of British Columbia in Canada, Professor Giovanni Tosi of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia and Professor Paolo Decuzzi, a researcher at the Italian Institute of Technology and Stanford University.
The abstract submission deadline is March 31, 2026, while all information on the program and how to participate is available on the event's official website: www.galenusmeeting2026.com.
