Student Residences

Living at AUC means joining a dynamic, and one-of-a-kind community that carries excellence into every aspect of living and learning. The Office of Residential Life supports the residential community through tailored programming aligned with student growth, from freshman year through graduate studies.

About Student Residences

Providing the kind of comfort and convenience befitting community, AUC’s on-campus halls are just a five-to-seven-minute walk to classes, and residents of near-campus halls can take a complimentary shuttle right to the campus gate for an equally short walk to class.  On-campus halls are also close to many food options and supermarkets, both on and off-campus. With bus service to other areas of the city leaving from campus throughout the day, students can expand their experiences in the region.

Student Residences Programs

Resident Advisors Program

We develop leaders. We aim at serving our community by creating a holistic living-learning community suitable for all residents to learn and develop. A key element of this mission is achieved through our Resident Advisors (RAs). An RA is a student para-staff member who engages in establishing a living-learning community, works as an advisor for the residents, and facilitates the residents' dormitory experience through the university resources/services/programs. The Resident Advisors work closely with the Resident Officers and other staff members to translate the Office of Residential Life vision and fulfill its mission. The RA is mainly the communication channel between the residents and the staff members/administration. The RA plays a vital role in establishing a comfortable atmosphere that encourages diversity, welcomes everyone, and makes the dorms feel like home.

Eligibility Criteria

Recruitment Process

Post and Compensation

RAs term is one academic semester, subject to renewal. They receive free single room accommodation If an applicant already has a free single room accommodation as a result of a fellowship or scholarship that covers accommodations, no additional compensation is offered.

The Residential Buddy Program

The Residential Buddy (RB) Program promotes the social inclusion of students with disabilities (SWDs) at AUC by matching students staying at the residences with other residents. Together, members with and without disabilities launch advocacy efforts, daily life skill boosting, and attend bonding events within the AUC Community. Inclusive living fosters an integrated experience for SWDs to become more active and contributing citizens living independently in a dynamic environment where they can learn and thrive.

Location

The Residential Buddy must live close to the resident SWD, preferably in the same section of the residential building/unit. Same gender matching if possible.

Hours

Minimum of 8.5 hours per week.

Span of Assistance

Each RB will be assisting 1-3 SWDs based on the recommendation of the Student Accessibility Services (SAS) office and the skills of the buddy. The RB will assist, guide, and help the SWD, yet will not take over their everyday tasks or activities. The SWD should be independent at all times or encouraged to be. A service schedule will be agreed upon between the RB and the SWD.

Required Skills

Responsibilities

Training

The obligatory training by SAS, to be completed before the beginning of the semester, will equip the RB with the skills and knowledge needed to provide effective support and create an inclusive environment.

The training session will cover:

Compnesation

This role is compensated by the work study program under the Career Center, paid towards the student account at the end of the semester after service evaluation.

Service Evaluation

The service of the RB is evaluated twice per semester (with different weights assigned to different evaluations); once via a check-in and once via the resident SWD through a questionnaire in addition to a smaller percentage completed by the RA or the RO of the unit. Receiving low evaluation scores will result in a warning and might result in agreement termination.

Conflict of Interest and Confidentiality

The RB will be exposed to confidential information regarding the resident SWD. Confidentiality should be maintained at all times. Failure to comply with confidentiality will result in an immediate termination of this agreement and reporting any violations to the appropriate university office.
