We are moving from Blackboard to Canvas, the world's #1 teaching and learning software.

In recognition of the growing importance of digital technology and its impact on teaching and learning, over the last two years, The American University in Cairo (AUC) conducted a comprehensive review of the top-performing Learning Management System (LMS) platforms. This thorough study, led by Aziza Ellozy, associate provost of transformative learning and teaching, in collaboration with the Center for Learning and Teaching (CLT) led by Hoda Mostafa, and the Information Technology (IT) team led by Iman Megahed, evaluated the suitability of various platforms, including a comparative analysis of our existing system; Blackboard.

Based on the findings of this review, AUC has concluded that [Canvas](https://www.instructure.com/canvas) offers the best solution for its academic courses. Accordingly, a migration plan is placed to migrate to Canvas learning management system over a transitional period. This move will be supported by the CLT and IT teams, ensuring a smooth and successful adoption of Canvas for faculty, teaching assistants (TAs), and students.

### **Why the Move?**

Canvas is renowned for its robust and engaging cloud-based learning environment. By transitioning to Canvas, AUC aims to provide its students and faculty an exceptional learning experience. With its advanced features and user-friendly interface, Canvas offers a solid digital foundation for teaching and learning at AUC.

Another significant advantage of Canvas is its superior mobile app, providing a seamless and enhanced experience compared to other learning management system options. This will contribute to a more flexible and accessible learning environment for AUC faculty and students.
