## Psychotherapeutic counselling services at the Studierendenwerk Freiburg-Schwarzwald
The psychotherapeutically and psychoanalytically trained therapists at SwFr help to find possible solutions to problems, whether personal or study-related. The therapeutic work focuses on counselling in the form of individual psychotherapeutic sessions.
[Psychotherapeutic counselling at the Studierendenwerk](https://www.swfr.de/en/soziales/psychotherapeutische-beratung)
Registration is required for this service.
Once a week, there is also an open consultation hour that can be attended without prior appointment. Consultations are available in several foreign languages. All consultations are, of course, subject to confidentiality. In addition, the psychotherapeutic counselling service offers numerous workshops and seminars on the topic of ‘Successful studying’.
## Integration assistance (“Eingliederungshilfe”): study assistants and study-related aids
Integration assistance can be used to finance services that enable participation in society, such as education, if the individual’s own assets or income are insufficient and no other service providers are responsible for this. Benefits include, for example, study assistance or study-related aids. The respective social welfare office is responsible for granting integration assistance, i.e. for students residing in Freiburg, this is the Office for Social Affairs.
[Application for integration assistance [de]](https://www.freiburg.de/pb/-/205332/eingliederungshilfe-fuer-menschen-mit-behinderungen-beantragen/vbid1179)
‘The specific purpose of participation in education is to enable those entitled to benefits to receive school education and school and university training and further education for a profession that corresponds to their abilities and achievements, in order to promote their participation in society’ (Section 90 (4) Part 2 SGB IX).
The respective social welfare office is responsible for granting integration assistance. For students residing in Freiburg, this is the Office for Social Affairs and Senior Citizens (“Amt für Soziales und Senioren”). Before submitting an application, it is advisable to clarify the requirements and the verification procedure in a personal meeting with the responsible contact persons.
## Study assistants
Study assistants can be fellow students or educational professionals who support students with disabilities/chronic illnesses in coping with everyday student life. This includes, among other things: taking notes in lectures, preparing study literature or helping with study organisation and structuring. Funding for study assistants can be applied for through the integration assistance programme (“Eingliederungshilfe”) at the relevant social welfare office. The representative for students with disabilities or chronic illnesses can help you find a suitable person.
Students usually find their own assistants, e.g. via the Studierendenwerk’s Job placement service.
[Job placement service](https://www.swfr.de/en/money/studijob/job-placement-service)
In addition, job advertisements for student assistantships can be sent out via the mailing list for your degree programme. To do this, you can contact the degree programme coordinators/departmental academic advisors, who will then send out the advertisement. You can find the contact details of the relevant contact persons for your degree programme in the information on the respective degree programme in the degree programme finder.

## ID card for people with a severe disability (“Schwerbehindertenausweis”)
The ID card for severely disabled persons is issued by the responsible pension office upon application (Section 152 SGB IX). A person is considered severely disabled if they have a degree of disability (GdB) of at least 50.
The prerequisite for applying is that the applicant’s place of residence, habitual abode or place of work is legally located within the territory of the Federal Republic of Germany. People whose disability does not meet the criteria for severe disability but who have a degree of disability of at least 30 can be treated as severely disabled if, as a result of their disability, they are unable to obtain or retain suitable employment without equal treatment.
In addition to the severely disabled person’s pass, under certain conditions, a supplementary sheet can be applied for or purchased that entitles the holder to free travel on local public transport. Applications and information are available from the Freiburg and Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald Pension Office (“Versorgungsamt”).
