Peter is a passionate organismal biologist and researches the evolution of social behavior and interspecific mutualism. Beyond the projects of his research group, he is interested in the ecological factors that select insect-fungus mutualisms and in evolutionary agriculture. For example, he is trying to find out whether humans can learn from fungus-growing insects to build a more sustainable agriculture. His main model organisms are bark beetles and ambrosia beetles.
