Accessibility on university campus

Unfortunately, not all areas of the University of Freiburg are barrier-free. The university tries to address this problem with individualized room assignments. Please inform your degree program coordinator at the beginning of your studies about your requirements, so that the accessibility of your courses can be ensured as early as possible. Room changes can be organized in consultation with the Zentrale Hörsaalvergabestelle. If you encounter any issues, please contact the representative for students with a disability or chronic illness.

Individual information about the location and accessibility of the university buildings can be found in our campus maps. We strive to provide the most accurate information possible regarding the accessibility of the buildings. Unfortunately, not all maps are complete and it can be difficult to keep them fully up to date, so we kindly ask you to contact us directly if you have any questions.

Euro Key

Several elevators at Freiburg University (e.g., in KG I, KG III, Sedanstraße 6, Mensa Rempartstraße or at the computer pool at Rempartstraße) require a “Euro Key”. This key is also widely used for accessible restrooms in public areas throughout Germany and is therefore a practical acquisition.

The Euro Key can be purchased from the Club Behinderter und ihrer Freunde, Darmstadt und Umgebung e.V..

In Freiburg, the key can be obtained through the Office for Social Affairs and Seniors (“Amt für Soziales und Senioren”) for a small fee.

Quiet rooms

On the city center campus, a quiet room can be used in the University Library in Reading Room 1.Unfortunately, there are no official quiet rooms in the other university buildings. However, individual solutions for rooms near your campus can be found in individual cases. Please contact the representative for this.

Mobility training

For students with a visual impairment or complete loss of sight, navigating the university campus can be a challenge. Especially when arriving in a new city or environment, one is often dependent on help. In such cases, mobility training can help regain confidence. It takes place in individual courses and is also covered by health insurance if prescribed by a doctor. The Blinden- und Sehbehinderten Verein Südbaden e.V. offers mobility training in Freiburg.
