Upon enrolment, every University of Freiburg student is sent a personal student identity card (UniCard) in the form of a chip card. This student identity card has the following functions:
Functions of the UniCard
- student identity card
- identity card for the SemesterTicket
- cashless payment at cafeterias and copy machines
- library card for the University Library, also for cashless payment of small fees
- key card for accessing buildings and rooms
Receiving your first UniCard
You enrol at the Service Center Studium and receive a welcome email. You receive your UniCard directly by post within approximately 14 days after enrolment. We make every effort to print all cards as quickly as possible. However, sometimes it can take a bit more time for the card to reach you. Please be patient if the card has not arrived after one to two weeks. If you have still not received your card four weeks after enrolment, please feel free to contact us.
If you do not have a German registration address, the card will not be sent abroad but will be kept at the UniCard Office for you to pick up in person (with a valid photo ID).
Validity
Newly issued UniCards are valid for a period of five years. If you are continuing your studies, you must apply for a new card at the UniCard Office before the expiry date. There is NO charge for this application; you receive your new UniCard in exchange for your expired UniCard.
