Result
In this course, participants will acquire a basic knowledge of Dutch, leading them to CEF-level A2/B1. Participants receive a certificate after full attendance and if the course work and portfolio are evaluated positively.
Content
The course consists of independent course work through the online learning platform Link+. Additionally, participants have to complete written assignments (individually) and spoken assignments (recorded with a fellow student or someone outside of the course context) every week. In weeks 1, 4, 7 and 10 of the course there are conversational sessions, where students work in a small group with the teacher to practice speaking and (in week 10) complete a spoken exam. Throughout the course, the teacher is available four times a week through the course's discussion boards. Lastly, students complete a portfolio to show they have achieved the right proficiency. The portfolio consists of listening and reading tests, writing assignments, a practical recorded speaking exercise outside of class and a spoken exam in the final lesson. If the result is satisfactory, you will be able to enrol in the B1 course.
At the end of the course, you will be able to function in Dutch at CEF-level A2/B1. You are on your way to the following CEF-level B1 learning objectives and are learning to:
- understand key points from clear standard texts on familiar matters regularly encountered at work, school and leisure,
- cope with most situations that may arise when traveling in areas where Dutch is spoken,
- produce a simple running text on topics that are familiar or of personal interest,
- describe experiences and events, dreams, hopes and ambitions and can briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans.
Duration and time investment
The course runs for ten weeks. Every week, students do self-study (approximately 4 hours) and complete assignments (approximately 2 hours). Every three weeks, there is a conversational session with the teacher (45 minutes). Participants are required to complete all weekly assignments and to fully attend all conversational sessions in order to pass the course.
