Gain an in-depth understanding of the complexities of **European policymaking** to address the **cross-border, societal challenges** our society is facing today.

Climate change, cyber security, migration, and the energy transition: the grand challenges society faces today are not limited to borders. They require international collaboration, and the European Union (EU) is a key player in fostering such cooperation – shaping policies and driving innovation to tackle these issues collectively. But how do you navigate the complexities that arise in the context of European policymaking? How do you reach effective decision-making with multiple member states and institutions involved? And what are the implications of technological advances for governance on an international scale? You will learn to deal with these and many more questions in the Master’s in European Studies at the University of Twente.

This Master’s teaches you all about the design and implementation of European public policy, specifically in the context of digital transformation and technological developments. You will learn to deal with the multifaceted challenges and opportunities within Europe and the global geopolitical landscape, exploring the intra-European context as well as Europe’s global standing in comparison to other major players like the USA, Russia, or China. In doing so, you will combine political, sociological, economic, legal, and technological perspectives.

European Studies in the context of rapid technological progress

The digital transformation is one of the EU's main priorities. Studying European Studies at a technical university like the University of Twente equips you with a deeper understanding of technological perspectives on policy-related challenges within the European context. Let us be clear: you really don't need to be a tech geek to follow this Master’s. But if you are eager to help solve challenges related to i.e. data security and privacy, digital infrastructures, Artificial Intelligence, renewable energy technologies or the reduction of e-waste, to name some examples, then the University of Twente is the right place for you to pursue your master’s degree!
