Ways to apply
There are two ways to join an EngD at the University of Twente. You can apply for a current vacancy or propose a project with your employer.
Apply for a vacancy
Most EngD positions are published as vacancies linked to a specific industry design project. These vacancies describe the project, the company involved and the required background. Applications are submitted via the vacancy page.
Selection is based on your MSc results, your talent for technological design and your motivation for the programme and topic.
Start an EngD with your employer
If you are employed by a company, you can follow an EngD trajectory based on a jointly defined design project within your organisation. The project and supervision are arranged in consultation with the EngD programme.
Procedure
- Draft a proposal in Business and IT, Civil Engineering, Energy and Process Technology, Maintenance or Robotics in consultation with your company and UT. Download the proposal template here.
After company approval, contact Hans Voordijk. A programme director will follow up to discuss next steps.
Admission requirements
To be eligible for an EngD programme, you must:
- Hold an MSc degree or an equivalent qualification from an officially recognised university or accredited academic institution.
- Have a background relevant to the specific EngD programme.
- Demonstrate strong academic performance.
- Show affinity and talent for technological design.
- Be highly motivated for the programme and the proposed design project.
Selection is based on your academic record, CV, motivation and suitability for the specific EngD project.
Not yet graduated?
You may apply for conditional admission if you have not yet completed your MSc degree. In that case, you must provide:
- Official transcripts
- Detailed curriculum information
- Information about your graduation project or research

You must present your MSc diploma before the start of the EngD programme.
