After the Bachelor’s in Business Information Technology, you can immediately enter the job market or you can further specialise with a master’s.

Further studies and the job market

After getting your Bachelor’s degree in Business Information Technology, you can further specialise by completing a master’s, which is what the majority of our students choose to do. You can follow a master’s at the University of Twente, at another Dutch university, or at a university abroad. Some students enter the job market straight away, or start their own business.

Further Studies Business Information Technology

Most Business Information Technology alumni continue on to our two-year, English-taught Master’s Business Information Technology. This master’s is a perfect follow-up to the Bachelor’s Business Information Technology.

Other Master’s

With a Bachelor’s degree in Business Information Technology, you can also follow other Master’s, such as Computer Science, Industrial Engineering & Management, Business Administration, Interaction Technology or Philosophy of Science, Technology and Society. You can enter most engineering & technology master’s after completing a pre-master’s. This also applies to master’s at other (international) universities.

A master’s in the social sciences, such as Psychology, Philosophy or Business Administration, is also possible. In most cases, you will need to complete a tailored pre-master’s first.

Some students combine the Master’s Business Information Technology with our Dutch-taught Science Education, which allows you to work in education, among other things.

Find a job after the Master’s Business Information Technology

In the BIT programme, you will be trained as a specialist in designing information systems that allow companies to improve their performance at various levels. Especially if you obtain a master’s degree after your bachelor’s, you will find plenty of job opportunities, even right here in Twente, the fastest growing industrial region in the Netherlands. Most of our students find a good job even before graduation – some can even choose between various offers.

You often end up in a position that bridges the gap between people – for example, management or system users – and IT. This can be in almost any sector: from energy, construction, and traffic & transport to the manufacturing industry. The financial sector and (online) marketing are also among the possibilities.

• IT manager or CIO\ Companies collect huge amounts of information and use a lot of technology to process it. Many of our graduates start as information specialists, and rapidly move up towards the position of IT manager or Chief Information Officer (CIO). In a job like that, you are responsible for developing and organising all the information, ensuring that the right data are in the right place at the right time. You often use the latest technologies for this, such as mobile apps and cloud computing. You understand what users need, and how you can achieve that technically.
• Research in an R&D department, or IT analyst\ IT is one of the most rapidly developing sectors. Translating IT into meaningful business applications requires a lot of research and development. As a researcher at a university or in the Research & Development (R&D) department of an IT company, you rapidly develop new types of IT-based services, or you come up with methods to facilitate successful IT usage. As an IT analyst at a specialised IT research or consultancy firm, you follow the latest developments and advise the business community on the applications.
• IT architect, consultant or project manager\ As an IT architect you ensure that the information and software across a company function well, and are in line with the work being done. This is often a varied job, in which you must be able to understand the entire company and prepare it for the future. IT consultants help companies with specific questions, such as how to better protect the company against hackers, or how to design an app that can better help customers. IT project managers carry out projects, for example, developing a new IT system. In positions like these, you have an eye for the organisation, the finances, the technology and optimized team work.

Well-known companies at which graduates from this programme have started working include Shell, Deloitte, FrieslandCampina, Picnic, Albert Heijn and Kuehne + Nagel.

Start your own company

You can also start your own business with a solution that you have developed. The UT enjoys recognition as ‘the most entrepreneurial university’ in the Netherlands. We are strong in the application of expertise to meaningfully influence society. Together with our students we like to work with the innovation specialists from Novel-T, who like to tap in to promising innovative business cases.

An example of a spinoff that has resulted from this programme is Thuisbezorgd.nl, which enables consumers to get restaurant meals to be delivered to their doorstep.
