Boost your personal development and your career with a PhD programme at UT

The PhD programme at University of Twente lasts in principle four years. The programme will provide you with skills and experience you need to become an independent researcher. It focuses on conducting independent research leading to a dissertation and on a personalised 30 EC doctoral education programme that combines disciplinary training and transferable skills.

Besides research and training activities, your tasks as a PhD candidate may include (limited) teaching and supervising activities (in principle only for employed PhD candidates). Part of your research also involves disseminating the knowledge you acquire, for example, through publications in academic journals.

An integral part of a PhD is writing your PhD thesis and then, of course, presenting and defending your research in public before a Graduation Committee. After successfully completing your PhD, you will be awarded the degree of Doctor (Dr.) or Doctor of Philosophy (PhD).

You will do the PhD programme under the professional academic guidance of your supervisory team, consisting of a promotor and copromotor(s).
