First-generation college students may feel at a disadvantage due to the lack of family and financial support, including practical know-how on many aspects of the college experience. They may often miss opportunities they otherwise might have pursued had they known how to advocate for themselves and cultivate relationships. First-generation college students bring with them a lot of determination and drive, and leveraging academic resources and college network effectively can help them navigate the unknown of campus journey.
