July 7, 2022

On July 12, 2022 bConnected keys will be retired for the few remaining accounts with active keys; the majority of bConnected keys have already been disabled as of January 2022.Impacted users have already been directly contacted. bConnected keys are most commonly used to "send-as" another email account in Gmail. In order to increase password security, on July 12, 2022 login processes for Google accounts must occur through CalNet Authentication. Using a “bConnected Key” as a password will no longer be an option. If you are using an email client, change the login method to Sign in with Google. See this knowledgebase article: [How do I configure my third-party email client?](https://berkeley.service-now.com/kb_view.do?sysparm_article=KB0013633)

SPA accounts currently using bConnected Keys on a device (e.g. multifunction devices such as copiers or scanners to send email) have the option to switch to a Google App Password or Google SMTP. See this knowledgebase article [How to configure the SMTP settings to send mail from a printer, scanner, or app](https://berkeley.service-now.com/kb_view.do?sysparm_article=KB0010997)
