Google Drive Security Update for File Shared Links

On Monday, September 13, 2021, Google will apply a security update to select Google Drive files. This affects files that were uploaded prior to 2017 that are shared with a Google Drive shared link. Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Forms aren’t impacted by this security update.
Who is impacted?
- Owners and managers of affected files will be notified starting Monday, July 26.
- Beginning September 13, those accessing affected files for the first time using a Google Drive shared link that hasn’t been updated will need to request access from the owner or manager.
What should I do if I manage affected files?
If Google informs you that you have affected files (see example message below), you should update the Google Drive shared links for affected files on websites and shared resources before September 13. If URLs to your files are not updated, you may receive new file access requests.
