# Start University and Mobility

Throughout the programme, you will be enrolled in a 'start university' and a second (and possibly a third) university, depending on the pathway you choose.

- SEMESTERS 1, 2 & 3: you **always**reside in your start university, unless your major specialisation requires otherwise (= exception).
- SEMESTERS 4 & 5 (major): you **always**reside in your second university.
- SEMESTER 6 (minor): you either stay in your second university, you go to a third university or you return to your start university.

This way you will always reside at least two semesters away from your start university. For more information visit [mobility](https://ghum.kuleuven.be/EN/baes/mobility) at BAES.

\

Your 'start university' is always one of the degree-awarding partners:

- [**KU Leuven**](https://ghum.kuleuven.be/EN/baes)
- [**Alma Mater Studiorum Università di Bologna**](https://corsi.unibo.it/laurea/EuropeanStudies)
- **Universidad Complutense de Madrid**
- [**Uniwersytet Jagiellonski w Krakowie**](https://studia.uj.edu.pl/kierunki/wsmip/baes.una.europa)

*Side note: your start university will not necessarily be located in your home country. If you are eligible for the programme, you will be allocated to one of these four universities, to assure an equal distribution of students over all partners.*

Your second (and third) university is one of the degree-awarding partners above or one of the following mobility partners:

- [**Freie Universität Berlin**](https://www.fu-berlin.de/en/international/network/partnership-networks/unaeuropa/learning/focus-areas/european-studies/minors_incoming/index.html)
- [**Helsingin Yliopisto/Helsingfors Universitet**](https://www.helsinki.fi/en/admissions-and-education/apply-bachelors-and-masters-programmes/joint-degree-programmes)
- [**Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne**](https://unaeuropa.pantheonsorbonne.fr/formation/licence-0)
- [**The University of Edinburgh**](https://www.ed.ac.uk/global/stories/una-europa-launches-bachelor-in-european-studies)
- [**Universität Zürich**](https://www.uzh.ch/en.html)
- [**University College Dublin**](https://www.ucd.ie/)

Depending on students’ interests in particular specializations/locations and considering the limited amount of mobility spots at mobility partner universities, the chances of getting into a specialization at one of the mobility partners may be slim. The programme therefore uses a [specific mobility procedure](https://ghum.kuleuven.be/EN/baes/students/mobility) for assigning specialisations (and locations) to students once they have started the BAES.

Students can apply for an [Erasmus+](https://www.ucm.es/convocatoria-alumnos) grant.
