Applicants performing military/social service

Applicants who are admitted while performing military or social service are unable to enroll for the time being. They are entitled to be re-admitted.

Studying without Abitur

If you don’t have a university entrance qualification such as the German Abitur but a vocational degree and a few years of work experience, you may still be admitted to university if certain requirements are met.

Auditors

Anyone interested in attending individual courses who is not enrolled as a student can be admitted as an auditor within the limitations of available places.

Cross-registered students

Students enrolled at other German universities who are not on a leave of absence can apply to be admitted as cross-registered students.

High-level athletes

Most elite athletes are active at a time in their lives when they are also laying the foundations for their professional career. Balancing an academic education with a career in high-level sport is thus particularly challenging.

Exchanging places with a student at another university

Students admitted to degree programs with nationwide admission restrictions often find themselves sent somewhere they do not want to go. As well as applying for a higher program-related semester in the standard way, you can then try to secure a place at your chosen university by swapping with another student.

Selection by lot

The allocation of places is usually completed before the start of the lecture period in the relevant semester. Any places still remaining at that time are allocated by lot, and anyone who is interested can take part.
