Leonhard Flemisch is one of the recipients of the 2023 State Prize, one of the coveted awards for outstanding academic achievement. Receiving the 2023 State Prize led him to “We are Uni Bonn.”
Remarkable
According to Prof. Dr. Birgit Münch, Vice Rector for International Affairs, his master's thesis, “Drawing Testimony: Strategies of Documentary Representation in Joe Sacco's Comic Paying the Land,” shows how graduates of the University of Bonn can already achieve remarkable things through hard work and dedication during their studies. According to the US Embassy, the award recognizes the “best, most original, and most compelling transdisciplinary master's thesis” that was nominated.

Ambassador's Award
Following her keynote speech on the value of international academic exchange, the Consul General of the United States, Pauline Kao, presented the United States Ambassador's Award for research projects related to the USA for the first time since 2017. The prize money of €4,000 can be used for a research stay in the USA.
