Dr. Florian Brandl is Argelander Professor at the Institute of Microeconomics and the Hausdorff Center for Mathematics at the University of Bonn.

## "How does a shared apartment work?"

Anyone who, like Argelander Professor Florian Brandl, deals with questions surrounding the fair distribution of goods as a basic researcher also encounters the question of who takes on tasks related to the distribution of goods and to what extent, for example, in a shared apartment: Who provides how much of what, when, and how often? Apparently, the question of fairness is not all that easy to answer, even theoretically.

## Building Transdisciplinary Models

When Florian Brandl wants to approach the answer to the question of the distribution of goods, he works with theoretical models. To do this, he needs to gain a better understanding of what fairness actually means: a robust conceptualization, a definition, is required. Algorithms will later help him efficiently calculate and establish fair distributions. Interdisciplinary, transdisciplinary work is exactly what Florian Brandl was looking for, and he believes it's possible at the University of Bonn, at the highest level, under excellent working conditions.
