Prof. Dr. Christiane Woopen holds the first Heinrich Hertz Professorship at the University of Bonn and heads the Center for Life Ethics, which she established.

Researching together

The goal of the young Center for Life Ethics, headed by Prof. Dr. Chistiane Woopen here at the University of Bonn, is nothing less than to jointly explore the ethical conditions of technologies, economics, the environment, and globalization. To this end, the medical ethicist has brought together experts from various disciplines and institutions, including those outside the university, in order to develop new interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary ideas and put them into practice. The ethical good consists in respecting or promoting the development, beauty, and abundance of all life.

Hertz-Professur

Prof. Dr. Woopen says that she owes her appointment as Hertz Professor at the University of Bonn to her new center, which allows her to pursue a “new ethical approach.” The institutionalized connection between her research as Hertz Professor and non-university actors and the “House of Young Thinking” is absolutely unique in the research landscape. Added to this is her advisory role at the interface with society.
