Monique Mauel is one of the 2023 State Prize winners, receiving one of the coveted awards for outstanding academic achievement. The 2023 State Prize award led her to “We are Uni Bonn,” among other things.

The work aims to break down taboos

Monique Mauel's master's thesis, “Keep Calm and Keep Bleeding: Twenty-First Century Representations of Menstruation on Screen,” demonstrates that graduates of the University of Bonn can achieve remarkable things through hard work and dedication even while still studying, explains Prof. Dr. Birgit Münch, Vice Rector for International Affairs. According to the US Embassy, the award recognizes, as in the case of Leonhard Flemisch, the “best, most original, and most compelling transdisciplinary master's thesis” that was nominated.

Ambassador's Award

Following her keynote speech on the value of international academic exchange, US Consul General Pauline Kao presented the US Ambassador's Award for research projects related to the United States for the first time since 2017. The prize money of €4,000 can be used for a research stay in the USA. The award winner is now herself professionally involved in promoting international academic exchange for and with students.
