## Haskayne’s commitment

The vision of the Haskayne School of Business - to be a place where big ideas come to life and bold leaders thrive - can't be realized without a fundamental commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and reconciliation. We acknowledge that the journey towards equitable and inclusive education in business is lifelong and we all find ourselves on different parts of that journey.

We will unlearn, learn and model EDI. We will strive to build healthy relationships by engaging in difficult conversations. We will collaborate on dismantling of the systems of oppression that create barriers for our community. It is important for everyone to feel truly and authentically included here. It is through this comprehensive perspective on EDI that we will develop the bold leaders of the future - and change the landscape of business forever.

### Land acknowledgement

The University of Calgary, located in the heart of Southern Alberta, both acknowledges and pays tribute to the traditional territories of the peoples of Treaty 7, which include the Blackfoot Confederacy (comprised of the Siksika, the Piikani, and the Kainai First Nations), the Tsuut’ina First Nation, and the Stoney Nakoda (including Chiniki, Bearspaw, and Goodstoney First Nations). The City of Calgary is also home to the Métis Nation of Alberta Region 3.

## Mission, Vision and Values

## Mission

Haskayne purposefully creates and nurtures a diverse, equitable and inclusive culture that addresses systemic injustices and generates optimal outcomes for our employees, students and the community we serve.

## Vision

We use the full power of the resources and expertise at Haskayne to create and steward bold leaders for equity, diversity, and inclusion.

## Values

**Respect** — **Integrity** — **Community** — **Belonging** — **Thriving** — **Vulnerability** — **Intersectionality**

## Strategic Objectives

### One

**To build programs that continuously improve the representation of [equity-deserving](https://www.ucalgary.ca/equity-diversity-inclusion/literacy-and-education/edi-glossary) groups in management and decision-making.**

### Two

**To create a culture that values participation from all faculty, staff, and students and nurtures each individual’s development and well-being.**

### Three

**To be a school that takes actions with measurable impact against systemic injustices ([racism, homophobia, and other injustices](https://www.ucalgary.ca/equity-diversity-inclusion/literacy-and-education/edi-glossary)) within our spheres of influence.**

## Reconciliation and Indigenization

At Haskayne, we all have a responsibility to walk the parallel path towards reconciliation with Indigenous communities. In solidarity, we acknowledge the ways in which Indigenous inclusion is distinct but related to our EDII initiatives. There is no equity without reconciliation. We aim to advance reconciliation by: engaging in the difficult yet crucial conversation about and actions towards decolonization, the inclusion and Indigenization of our academia, intercultural capacity-building of our faculty, integration of Indigeneity into our courses and programs, and academic, cultural and wellness support for our Indigenous students. Adhering to the adage “nothing for us, without us” we’re in the process of consulting with our Indigenous students, Good Relatives and campus partners on our in-progress Strategic Plan for Reconciliation and Indigenization. Consultation is an important part of reconciliation. Please check back here for updates.
