# Commitment to the Indigenous Health Dialogue

### We will uphold the five directions identified for CSM to be an effective champion,   collaborator, facilitator and advocate for Indigenous health.

### Objectives

1. Deliver on the recommendations of the Indigenous Health Dialogue (IHD)
2. Commitment to an independent, self-determined, Indigenous Health Office
3. Drive quantifiable improvements in Indigenous health

### Principles

- Embed self-determined Indigenous content and pedagogy in education
- Commit to supporting Indigenous health research
- Deliver on the five directions of IHD for a path forward
- Implement the critical reflective framework of the IHD
- Create parallel pathways for self-determined Indigenous engagement with CSM

## Strategies

### **1.      Commitment to self-determined Indigenous engagement with CSM**

- Create an independent Indigenous office
- Create dedicated Indigenous leadership roles within CSM
- Support strategies for equity of access and authentic inclusion of Indigenous perspective and people within all levels of CSM

### **2.     Build Indigenous health education content across all educational units**

- Require all educational curricula to include Indigenous content and pedagogy
- Require all educational programs to develop Indigenous admissions pathways
- Address institutional barriers towards prioritizing Indigenous health education

### **3.     Promote Indigenous people and knowledge while dismantling barriers and bias within the institution**

- Require all faculty and staff to take Indigenous anti-racism training
- Grow capacity for equity and promote Indigenous-based approaches in the CSM
- Engage in a formal institutional decolonization process
- Require all new faculty to complete the Indigenous Canada Massive Open Online Course (MOOC)

### **4.     Require ethical and rigorous Indigenous health research within our institution that effectively responds to community identified priorities**

- Build Indigenous health research capacity within CSM in partnership with the Indigenous community
- In collaboration with the community, health systems and health resource partners, develop innovations in health care approaches and models
- Focus on ethical engagement with key partners in shared goals of advancing Indigenous health
