Areas of Research
Research Creation with a focus in photography\ My photographic work builds upon my background in qualitative social science research, and my experience as an ethnographer. I am interested in using photography as a way of exploring social worlds and universes of meaning. Much of my work has focused on domestic life and the family, the crucible in which our identities are formed. I am also interested in transitional moments in life--moments when we stand on the threshold of a new identity. I shoot both film and digital, and choose visual approaches that best suit the ideas I explore. I am also concerned with narrative and narrative structure, and ways in which photographs can tell stories, whether in the gallery or on the page.
