Application Process
Students who are interested in the CCLF program must take Introduction to French Common Law (3 credits) in the Fall term of the second year of the JD program.
Students who wish to apply to the CCLF program must send their application to Caroline Magnan, Director, CCLF Program at cmagnan@uottawa.ca by October 15. Applications must include a Statement of Interest (written in French) and a copy of the student’s first year law grades. Please note that a minimum GPA of 2.7 in first year law is generally required for admission to the program.
Applications will be reviewed by the Director of the CCLF Program and by the Associate Dean (Academic). Candidates will be notified of acceptance into the program as soon as possible.
Participation in the program will not prejudice a student’s eligibility for Dean’s List, awards and other designations.
Processus de demande
Les étudiantes, étudiants désireux de s’inscrire au programme de Certification de common law en français (CCLF) doivent prendre le cours d’Introduction à la common law en français (3 crédits) au trimestre d’automne de la deuxième année du programme de J.D.
Les étudiants qui souhaitent faire une demande d’admission au programme de CCLF doivent l’envoyer par courriel à Caroline Magnan, directrice au programme de CCLF à cmagnan@uottawa.ca d’ici le 15 octobre. Les demandes d’admission doivent comprendre une déclaration d’intérêt (rédigée en français) et une copie du relevé de notes de première année en droit. Prière de noter qu’une moyenne pondérée cumulative (MPC) minimum de 2.7 durant la première année en droit est en général exigée pour l’admission au programme.
La directrice au programme de CCLF et la doyenne adjointe (Affaires scolaires) se chargeront d’examiner et de sélectionner les demandes. Les candidates, candidats seront avisés de leur acceptation au programme dès que possible.
La participation au programme ne préjugera pas de l’admissibilité d’un étudiant à la liste du doyen, aux prix et autres désignations.
Required Courses
After completing the first year of the JD program, students accepted into the CCLF program will complete all of the following courses in French to satisfy the CCLF requirements:
Second year
Fall
- Introduction to French Common Law (3 credits)
Winter
- Internship in French (3 credits)
- Advanced Topics in French Common Law (3 credits)
Third year
Fall
- Semester in Ottawa (15 credits)
- Must include a Language Rights course
Winter
- Bastarache Moot (3 credits)
- Directed Research in French (3 credits)
Mentorship
During the course of the CCLF program, students will be paired with experienced mentors in the legal profession, and have the opportunity to learn from law firms, organizations and government actors that work in French.

Après avoir réussi leur première année au programme de J.D., les étudiants acceptés au programme de CCLF devront réussir tous les cours en français énumérés ci-dessous afin de satisfaire aux exigences du CCLF:
Deuxième année

- Sujets de niveau avancé en common law en français (3 crédits)
Troisième année

- Trimestre à Ottawa (15 crédits)
- Doit comprendre un cours sur les droits linguistiques
Hiver
- Concours de plaidoirie Bastarache (3 crédits)
- Projet de recherche dirigée en français (3 crédits)
Mentors
Pendant la durée du programme de CCLF, les étudiants seront jumelés avec des mentors expérimentés de la profession juridique et auront la possibilité d’en savoir davantage auprès de cabinets juridiques, d’organisations et d’acteurs du gouvernement qui œuvrent en français.
