Postgraduate Medical Learner Accommodation Process

The purpose of academic accommodations is to enable Medical Learners to complete their training and meaningfully participate in the medical profession while safeguarding patient care, safety and well-being.
Things to note:
- Requests for accommodation are confidential. Similarly, accommodation plans are confidential.
- The role of the Office of Resident Affairs and Physician Wellness is to facilitate the process and to provide support.
- If you aren't sure, have questions, or you need support with the process, please book an appointment with Julie Munch our Occupational Therapist.
- Academic Accommodations can be requested prior to your start date, or at any time during your residency.
- Accommodations are based on protected grounds as per Human Rights legislation.
- If you had accommodations in Undergrad, please also consider attaching that documentation to your request.
- Questions about the accommodation process can be directed to pgmeaccom@ucalgary.ca.
- The process can take from 1-3+ months for review and implementation.
Accommodation Policies and Forms
To make an accommodation request
- Complete the Resident Accommodation Form and submit it via e-mail at pgmeaccom@ucalgary.ca or in person at the Office of the Associate Dean, PGME (Room G02 (Ground Floor), Heritage Medical Research Building, 3330 Hospital Drive NW).
- If the accommodation is required due to a mental or physical disability, please also submit a Fitness for Work Form with your physician via e-mail at pgmeaccom@ucalgary.ca or in person at the Office of the Associate Dean, PGME (Room G02 (Ground Floor), Heritage Medical Research Building, 3330 Hospital Drive NW).
