Certification in common law in French
UCalgary Law is pleased to offer the Certification in common law in French — Certification de common law en français (CCLF) — through a partnership with the University of Ottawa Faculty of Law. We are one of only two law schools in Canada to offer this unique opportunity to our students.
Through the CCLF program, select UCalgary Law students with French-language ability will gain valuable skills in French legal writing and advocacy, as well as a deep understanding of the important issues surrounding language rights in Canada. Students who earn the CCLF will help to increase access to justice for French-speaking clients in Alberta, and across Canada, a group that is commonly underserved in the legal system due to language barriers.
The CCLF is a first step towards a variety of career opportunities, including:
- Prestigious clerkship opportunities with the Supreme Court of Canada, the federal courts, and the federal public service;
- Legal careers where legal training and proficiency in both official languages is an asset;
- Providing legal services to the Francophone community, in the language to which they are entitled;
- Contributing to the administration of justice in both official languages; and,
- Joining a network of more than 1,000 alumni of the uOttawa French Common Law Program who share this unique training, recognized for its excellence in Canada and around the world.

La Faculté de droit de l’Université de Calgary est fière d’offrir la Certification de common law en français/Certification in common law in French (CCLF) grâce à un partenariat avec la Faculté de droit de l’Université d’Ottawa. Nous sommes les deux seules facultés de droit au Canada à offrir cette occasion unique à notre population étudiante.
Par l’entremise du programme de CCLF, des étudiantes et étudiants en droit de l’Université de Calgary choisis pour leurs habiletés en français acquerront des compétences essentielles en matière de rédaction et de plaidoirie en français, ainsi qu’une compréhension approfondie des importants enjeux entourant les droits linguistiques au Canada. Après leur certification, les étudiantes et étudiants seront en mesure de promouvoir l’accès à la justice à l’intention des justiciables francophones en Alberta, et dans l’ensemble du Canada, un groupe qui est en général moins bien desservi au sein du système de justice en raison des obstacles de nature linguistique.
Le CCLF est une première étape vers un vaste choix de carrières juridiques gratifiantes, et notamment la possibilité:
- d’occuper un poste d’auxiliaire juridique auprès de la Cour suprême du Canada, des cours fédérales et de la fonction publique fédérale;
- d’accéder à des postes juridiques où la formation juridique et la maîtrise des deux langues officielles constituent un atout;
- d’offrir à la collectivité francophone les services juridiques en français auxquels elle a droit;
- de contribuer à l’administration de la justice dans les deux langues officielles; et,
- de faire partie d’un réseau regroupant déjà mille juristes diplômés du Programme de common law en français de l’Université d’Ottawa qui partagent une formation unique, reconnue pour son excellence au Canada et dans le reste du monde.
