#### "The Calgary Curriculum prepared me well for my summer position at a law firm in terms of the substantive content of the law and valuable opportunities to write memos and factums. All of my professors were fast to point out real life scenarios in which the law would be applicable, which was especially helpful for the litigation rotation."

## Taking courses as a non-Law student
#### Auditing
People with a law degree and currently practicing law in Alberta may audit courses, if approved. Space restrictions limit the number of students allowed to audit law courses.
Email the Student Services office at [**law@ucalgary.ca**](mailto:law@ucalgary.ca) to start the application/approval process. All admission, registration and fee deadlines for regular students apply. Tuition and fees are paid on a per-course basis.
Auditors may not take part in assignments, examinations or parts of courses such as laboratories. They may take part in class discussion with the instructor's consent. If the instructor wishes the student to take part in activities other than class discussions, the Associate Dean (Academic) must grant permission.
#### Courses for credit
Permission will only be granted to:
- UCalgary students registered in the Faculty of Graduate Studies,
- persons holding a law degree from an accredited Canadian or American law school, and
- students admitted to UCalgary Law through an international student exchange program.
Email the Student Services office at [law@ucalgary.ca](mailto:law@ucalgary.ca) to start the application/approval process. Any person not enrolled in the JD or LLM programs need approval to take a course for credit in the Faculty of Law.
UCalgary students registered in the Faculty of Graduate Studies must show that the proposed JD course relates to their studies, and the student must have their supervisor’s consent.
People with a law degree from an accredited Canadian or American law school cannot enroll in compulsory courses at the Faculty of Law absent exceptional circumstances.
