How can a student find out who his/her academic advisor is?
Please follow these steps:
- Go to website mybanner.qu.edu.qa.
- Click on Enter Secure Area.
- Enter your Qatar University email and password, then click login.
- Click on Personal Information.
- Select View Student Information.
- Choose the current semester.
- Your academic advisor's name will be displayed next to Primary Advisor.
How many times should a student meet with his/her academic advisor during a semester?
It is recommended that students meet with their academic advisor multiple times throughout the semester. Ideally, students should schedule a meeting at the start of the semester, before early registration, and consult their advisor before dropping any courses.
How and where can a student meet his/her academic advisor?
Students can schedule an appointment (either in person or online) through the Appointment Manager system. Alternatively, they can visit during the advisor's walk-in hours without a prior appointment.
Can a student drop or add course after the drop/add period ends?
Students can drop courses through the self-service system in the Student Information System (Banner) during the designated drop periods. This period begins when the student registers for courses and lasts until the end of the drop/add period. Dropping courses during this time comes with no financial penalty, and the dropped course will not appear on the student's academic record.
After the drop/add period, from the second week of classes until the last day for course withdrawal, students can still drop courses based on their academic load. However, this will acquire a financial penalty, which depends on the timing of the drop, as outlined in the financial penalty schedule.
If a student wishes to drop a course, reducing their load below the minimum requirements (e.g., if they are expected to graduate and the course is not required for their graduation, or if they are a new student who has not completed 24 credit hours, or if they are on academic probation), they can submit a request to the Student Affairs Committee via email at sac@qu.edu.qa
Can a student drop/withdraw all registered courses for the current semester?
Yes, a student can withdraw from the entire semester (i.e., drop all registered courses) after the drop/add period and before the end of the 10th week of the semester. This will acquire a financial penalty. To do so, the student must submit a request through the self-service system in Banner

What is academic probation?
Academic probation refers to the academic status of any undergraduate student who has completed at least 19 credit hours (calculated in the GPA) and has earned a cumulative GPA below 2.0.
Can a student retake (repeat) a course?
Yes, a student may retake (repeat) any course they have previously completed at the university if they earned a final grade lower than "C" (Good). However, a student cannot repeat any course in which they received a final grade of "C" or higher.
When repeat a course, only the most recent grade will be considered in the cumulative GPA, regardless of how many times the course was repeated or the student's performance in previous attempts.
What should a student do if he/she needs to register (repeat) for a course for the thrid time?
If a student needs to register for a course for the third time, He\She should attempt to register through the Banner system and then submit a "Repeated Course Override" request. This request requires approval from the academic advisor, the college, and payment of the necessary fees according to the university's policies.
What are the graduation requirements?
A student is awarded a degree in a specific major after fulfilling all graduation requirements, with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 at the time of graduation for undergraduate students. The total number of credit hours required for graduation can be found in the university's student guide.
What is an elective coures?
An elective course is one subject that a student can choose from a set of offered courses, and it is counted toward the elective course requirements in the student's study plan.
What is a prerequisite course?
A prerequisite course is a course that a student must complete successfully before He\She is allowed to register in another, more advanced course. Prerequisites ensure that students have the necessary background knowledge or skills to succeed in the following course\s. For example, if course B is a prerequisite for course" A", a student must pass course" B" before He\She can register for Course A
Where can a student seek help if he\she is struggling with a course?
The first point of contact for students who are facing difficulties is their academic advisor. The advisor will discuss the student's situation and challenges and, based on their needs, may refer them to the appropriate support center. The students can also approach the relevant center directly.
Where can a student place a complaint related to university services or university personnel?
Students can submit complaints through the self-service system "myBanner." By selecting the "Student Services" link, they can access the Student Complaint System, choose the current semester, and review the service policy. What does an "Incomplete" grade mean?
A student may receive an "Incomplete" grade in a course if He\She has attended classes regularly but was unable to meet all course requirements. An "Incomplete (I)" grade is not equivalent to a failing grade (F) for poor performance. To be eligible for an "Incomplete (I)" grade, the student must provide an acceptable reason for their inability to complete the required work.
The deadline for changing an "Incomplete (I)" grade is the last day of the second week of classes in the following semester.
This date is specified in the Qatar University academic calendar, which is available on the university's website and shared with students during orientation.
Once the student completes the required or missing work, the course instructor will update the "Incomplete (I)" grade to a final letter grade (ranging from A to F) and submit this grade to the Registration Department. If the "Incomplete (I)" grade is not updated by the specified deadline, it will automatically be converted to a failing grade (F) according to university policy and regulations
What is the cumulative GPA?
The cumulative GPA (Grade Point Average) is the overall average of a student's grade points across all semesters. It reflects the student's academic performance in all registered courses at the end of each semester and cumulatively across their entire academic journey.
